Fred Brooks is perhaps best known as the author of The Mythical Man Month, a fantastic collection of essays on the craft of managing software development projects. His essay “No Silver Bullet” has emerged again in the Hacker News community.

ATL BBQ Sauce

Ingredients

  • 32 oz ketchup
  • 4 oz spicy brown mustard
  • 2 oz apple cider vinegar
  • 2 oz Karo syrup (dark corn syrup)
  • 1 oz Worchestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp Texas Pete hot sauce
  • 1 tbsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 tbsp dry yellow mustard (such as Coleman’s)
  • 1/2 tbsp white pepper
  • 2 oz yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 oz BBQ drippings or bacon fat

Motorcycles Of Cuba

Motorized 2-wheel transportation is pervasive in Cuba. They’re cheap, quick, and easy to maneuver around the crumbling roads. While the rumbling, diesel-retrofitted automobiles of the 50’s and 60’s are the sexy pinup models of Cuban transportation, it’s clear that motorcycles and scooters are the pragmatic choice.
